Computer software developer: medical informatics; local area networking; electronic mail; programming languages (I particularly like Scheme) and their runtime environments. Will hack Lua for food.

Avocations

Music
I came to music relatively late in life, then abandoned it for many years in the face of professional time constraints and occupational tendonitis; now I'm attempting to recover the chops that I never had. Currently I'm playing a 1973 Grotrian-Steinweg Model 220, serial #99903, beautifully rebuilt by Darrell Fandrich; a Yamaha P-80 electronic pseudo-piano, capable of withstanding environmental extremes that would destroy any real piano; and an inexpensive Deering banjo.
Skiing
Nordic, both performance and backcountry. My winter obsession.
Other outdoor activities
Running, hiking, scrambling, marksmanship, hunting, ad hoc forestry. What I do when I don't have snow.
Food and drink
Gluttony is the sweetest sin.

Family

I am married to the long-suffering Kathryn Hinsch, athlete and scholar. Three hardworking cats complete our household.

Politics and Religion

I find political and religious tirades on web sites very tedious, so I'll here spare you my own curmudgeonly viewpoint. Use your imagination. (Hint: I find Canadians even more menacing than fluoridated water.)
